wins dieus

My dear friends from the World Cinema…I am extremely happy for your overwhelming response to my column ‘Bollywood Flyover’. As you know your Bollywood is glorious…your Bollywood is vivacious…your Bollywood is colourful…It is musical…It is a dance…It is a drama…but somewhere within it…somewhere behind this vivacious world of Indian Cinema lies a hard struggle of achieving yourself…a struggle to fulfill your dreams…a struggle to know yourself…a struggle to prove your point of being a film maker…That is what everybody does…That is what Wins DIEUS has done…He is a traveler of his journey within himself…He is a philosopher…He is a thinker…He is a writer…He is a painter…but above all he is a film maker…a Bollywood film maker living to PROVE himself…He is Wins DIEUS for you…on…Bollywood Flyover… I welcome on board Wins DIEUS… I met Wins DIEUS around three years back as a ‘Film Broker’ ready to sell one of my films…the moment I saw him, I felt he is not…or say he should not be a ‘film broker’…he was so intelligent, so vibrant that I could clearly see a film maker before me in the Avtar of a so-called film broker in him…Yes brethrens…I was right…a little more conversation with him and I instantly felt that here is the man…who knows what he is…who knows what the world before him is…and who knows what he is destined to do so in his life...but strangely why he was trying to do a job which many other people in Bollywood were able to do without that much cinematic intelligence…? That was an obvious question in my mind. Was he fighting within himself for his survival…? May be…That’s what Bollywood is known for…It tests your abilities to the MAXIMUM…With a strong head on his shoulders, with his expressive eyes ready to reply to any questions efficiently he was before me... I could feel that he has many stories within himself, which I wanted to know...which you need to know as a true Bollywood friend…There is a strange mysticism in this guy…and I as a film maker am always curious to look into that mysticism…within this man named Wins DIEUS… So guys, here is Wins DIEUS…a strong and clear headed Bollywood actor/director/producer/writer and a ‘film broker’ for you…for the World Cinema… Sunil: Welcome on ‘Bollywood Flyover’ Wins… Wins DIEUS: Thanks Sunil, I am happy to be with you on Bollywood Flyover. Sunil: Wins, please tell me about you…your education and your up-bringing. Wins DIEUS: I come from Kerela, the Gods own country. I am the fourth generation of the man of EPIC Sri Narayan Guru, who preached even to the likes of Mahatma Gandhi and Ravindra Nath Tagore…I graduated from Trivandrum College of Fine Arts as a Sculptor with BFA and I hold KGTE Diploma as a painter. I belong to a middle class family and my parents have been very liberal and supportive to make my dreams come true. I have received an award from Kerala in 1994 as Kalaprathipha [best award for a male in the fields of art and literature at university level], that was for the memories of the great hero from Kerala named PREM NAZIR, who got Guinness World Record for acting in 634 films. As a sculptor I created the tallest sculpture in1995, 24 feet high and 7 feet wide, a Harreppen Hindu art behind the Konark back drop, high relief in metal. My father Mr. K .Devadas, received in 1969 a gold medal from Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, for his achievements as an automobile engineer in the Indian army. My mother Mrs. Sasikala got best teacher Ghandian award from the Chief Minister of Kerala in 2004. I have lectured in sculpture and worked as art director, cinematographer, costume designer, special effects painter/designer and make up man. As a director I have done many documentaries & TV series in Malayalam,Tamil, Telungu & Hindi languages. I also have experience as a lyricist, story writer and screenplay writer in my works Moonman Dracula, Wings of Will, Seven Hunters, Karishma, Waterman and Hercules. In my current productions I am working with American, German & British actors & technicians along with J P Darmanin an esteemed Argentinean music director. Patricia Ainslie from England, Joahn Sharamooni from Ireland & Richard Drace from America are Associate/Dialogue Writers. Sunil: Wins, how and when did you land up in ‘Bollywood’…the city of dreams? Wins DIEUS: When I finished my ‘Moonman’ first schedule I needed to find a distributor for my film promotion and release. I came to Mumbai and initially I met a person who misled me a lot, he is a film broker too. Eventually my fortunes changed when I was introduced to you, Sunil Babbar Sir, this episode was the most worthy in my 3yrs experience. During this time there were moments when I had felt that I had lost everything but after the meeting with you my hopes and dreams were reborn. I came to know some important people like Iqbal Durani, Sanjay Mazoom and some actors who are extremely talented but find that in Bollywood there is currently not enough cinema to meet their own standards of perfection. This makes me feel sad because the genuine people never get opportunity, The truly talented ones often get nothing while others of little talent & dedication reap the rewards. This is especially true regarding female actors. The sons & daughters of big stars & producers seem to rule Bollywood much similar to the situation in Indian politics. But despite this there are great independent film makers who are achieving success from their dedication & hard work. From 1950 to 1990 the Bollywood industry shone, but now is in the dilemma of saturation. There is a lack of creativity & talent, I feel that Bollywood is growing too big with technology and investments like Hollywood I am proud to say, from an artistic point of view that it is important that there are people like you Sunil Babbar & others such as Addoor Gopalakrishnan, Satyagit Ray, Ramgopal Varma, Bharati Raja, people who are the glory of Bollywood. All the big Bollywood film makers I met were impressed and shocked by my works, but they were not confident enough and didn’t believe in me. Although I did not get a chance in Bollywood I feel that during the1095 days I lost in my search it was a great & valuable experience for me. To me Bollywood is the good, bad and the ugly with the view of beauty. This I have shown in my film Seven Hunters with my portrayal of Good, Bad & Beauty. Sunil: How was your first day in Mumbai? Were you afraid of its magnanimous stature? Wins DIEUS: My first days were terrible, it was hot & everywhere I saw people struggling just to live but in the end I found the royal side of Bollywood, I found the sense of esthetics still existed. I learnt that life in cinema was hard & at times daunting but when a person believes in himself & has the passion to pursue his aims, in the end there will sure be success. Sunil: How and in which words you will sum-up your struggle in Bollywood? Wins DIEUS: My struggles are for the art not for success or money and fame,my passion is to fulfill the life of my stories as cinema. Sunil: Wins…Let’s now move ahead to one of the main issue of our discussion…the place of an intelligent and thoughtful director in a Bollywood film. Are not these films HERO dominated? Wins DIEUS: The real and true intelligent film maker will prove first with his own interpretation of the character’s role in the production. The success of the actor should come from his skill of being able to put himself into that interpretation and bring the character to life accordingly. Only too often the hero will seek to impose his own interpretation of his role outside the original bounds of the story as a whole. Sunil: Do you feel that generally the roles being offered to the Bollywood Heroines are just the glam-doll roles? Wins DIEUS: Yes but no!!! This often happens in Bollywood whereas now this is not so in Hollywood where many of today’s film successes see the great female roles being portrayed by actresses of immense talent rather than just glamour…You know more than me… Sunil: Where do you see the fault in fewer productions of the female-centric films in Bollywood? Wins DIEUS: As I said in Bollywood, much like Hollywood a few decades ago glamour only too often is more important than acting talent. To me this is the ugly side of Bollywood. Sunil: Do you feel that the previous years’ actresses like Meena Kumari, Madhubala, and Smita Patil have now lost somewhere in the history of Indian cinema or are they still alive in the present generation actresses? Wins DIEUS: Yes they are still alive, but it is this sort of talent that is missing in the present cinema. The time will make them alive in Bollywood cinema as a new avatar…. Sunil: Do you think the films being made in India, portray the real INDIAN woman? Wins DIEUS: Rarely, now is there general market value for that.. but as I said Bollywood is clever & what is good with beauty of thought & reality will make it to the global audience & be successful primarily on those grounds. Sunil: Wins, do you see yourself as a producer in your future? Wins DIEUS: Yes, as a producer for my productions and I hope I can be a budget producer… Sunil: Will your venture be a strong-contented low budget film or a typical song & dance equipped Bollywood film? Wins DIEUS: Yes but not in the same format, more in the traditional style where the medium of music is an integral part of the story and helps to portray the meaning to the ordinary person. Today the songs & dances are often detached from the story. Sunil: Wins. Ok…all well. Please tell me which are your favorite Indian films and why? Wins DIEUS: I will say Oru Vadakkan Verragatha-[ the Keralan legend of Chandu)] a story from the 1st century depicting human values and heroism from before the days of the East India Company. Sunil: Who are your favorite Indian film actors? Wins DIEUS: Kamal Hassan, Mohanlal, Rajnee Kant, Raaj Kumar, Amrish Puri and Mammooty. Sunil: Wins, tell me about your current films? Wins DIEUS: I am working on my first film’s second schedule, entitled Moonman. The actors are Andrew Roth, Liana Warner-Gray, Sunil Babbar, Wins Dieus, Anne Leigh-Cooper, Kara Tabore, Beenu Sharma, Struti Mehrotra, Sivaprasad, Suresh A.s. Music is by Juan Pablo Darmanin, dialogues by Patricia Ainslie & Richard Drace…..the film is being made in two languages, i.e. English & Tamil. I narrated the script of this movie to Dr. Kamala Selvaraj, daughter of the veteran actor Gemini Ganesan, and she expressed a lot of interest in the film. She may be interested in being one of the producers of the film. My second film is titled WoW [Wings of Will] the story about an Indian man with a passion for the works of William Shakespeare. He finds himself compelled to spend his life in search of a European woman whom he has never actually known. The lead actor is Sunil Babbar as Darma Puthra [the the son of truth] Anne Leigh-Cooper, Wins Dieus, Andrew Roth, Kara, Shruti Hassan and Beenu Sharma. It is written by me and music is composed by JP Darmanin. The associate writer is Patricia Ainslie. The film is going to be shot in India as well as in Europe….in English & Malayalam languages… My third film is titled –The Good the Bad and the Beauty in Seven Hunters a typical cowboy film, the first to be shot in India. It is in the present times & will be filmed in the Himalayas with the choice of location emphasizing the beauty of Mother Earth. You, Sunil Sir are doing the part of the villain. Other actors are Wins Dieus, Liana Warner-Gray, Andrew Roth, Jeremy Wiliams, Shriti, Suresh, Kara Tabore, Siva Prasad, Ganapathy Rajasekhar..etc….The languages of the film are English and Hindi. Sunil: Wins, you have signed me as an actor in your films WOW and SEVEN HUNTERS…How you feel working with an actor who himself is a director…? Do you feel a better compatibility with me than any other actor? Wins DIEUS: Yes, I am grateful to get you as an actor in my films and feel that you can understand my vision more than the other actors. I also hope to gain a great deal of experience about the world cinema while working with you. You know the grammar of cinema, most of my actors although are great, but don’t yet know the ABC of cinema. I pay tribute to all the people involved in my films it is hard work for everyone not just the film-maker... Sunil: You see Wins, I feel that some day I would I like to take the responsibility of a ‘Producer’ with you as a ‘Director’ without presenting myself as an ‘Actor’ in that…What would be your take in that Wins? Wins DIEUS:I would be grateful for you to deliver my film Waterman to the world, with its view of Darwin’s ‘Theory of Evolution’ The time will prove the value of your contributions to world cinema & I am glad for the opportunity to be a part of your vision for the future Sunil: Ok good…Who are your favorite actors in Hollywood? Wins DIEUS: Clint Eastwood, Al Pachino, Mel Gibson, Kate Winslet, Anthony Hopkins all are very versatile and talented. Sunil: Are you open to the proposals to direct/act in International films? Wins DIEUS: Yes, and I want to be part of world cinema as an actor & writer, cinematographer & director… Sunil: If given a chance what International film you would like to re-direct, I mean the one which have been created earlier by some other director? Wins DIEUS: Ben Hur or Shindlers List… Sunil: Do you have any inhibitions with the portrayal of Asian or say Indian characters in International Cinema? Wins DIEUS: Yes! Sadly, they are always cast as criminals in Hollywood films, not in the roles that highlight the value of Indian & Asian cultures & the importance of such in shaping human civilization.. Sunil: Now getting to a little change of subject Wins. Are you a religious practitioner? Wins DIEUS: Yes! …but maybe not in the accepted sense. Sunil: Oh interesting…What does spirituality mean to you? Wins DIEUS: I always follow my intuition to realize the truth of art which guides me on the way to reach my life’s visions. Sunil: Wins…I am curious to know. Please tell me who is ‘Wins’ within you…? Wins DIEUS: My futuristic visions and dreams from my nights are the ‘Wins’ in me. My experience of struggle as a searcher in the realms of the world of art…..by the wish of god… Sunil: Do you wish me to seriously accept that Wins DIEUS is as SIMPLE a person as you are saying…? Wins DIEUS: Yes! I am more humble than you see me…as me as real. Sunil: Wins, do you agree that the woman is a powerful creation of this world? Wins DIEUS: Yes always, they are the ‘creation’ of the creation to create the good, to destroy the bad & transform the ugliness to a thing of beauty. They are more powerful than men. They are the heralds of stability & passion in the world. They are earth’s treasures as mothers, sisters, wives & lovers. Their beauty challenges our jealousy & ego. Sunil: Wow Wins …I am truly impressed with our talks and your works. My best wishes are with you. The ‘Bollywood Flyover’ is always open to you for conveying your views and ideas to the World cinema. Wins DIEUS: Thank you very much Sunil. It was great talking to you on these various issues. I thoroughly enjoyed answering your questions. Sunil: The same here Wins. Good Luck... So guys, this was Wins DIEUS for you. A strong willed, intelligent and a powerful film maker from India. So, as always, I believe that the world is an extended family to me…‘Bollywood Flyover’ is opening the different layers of the colorful, vivacious and glamorous ‘Bollywood’ to you…to the global cinema lovers… I shall be back next time with another step over on Bollywood Flyover.
